Hello from Janis!

Here is our first report for the new year and the numbers are indicating this is still a buyers' market. Although sales were better than a year ago, they were nowhere as good as they were for December 2009. Could this be the slowdown we normally see in November and December catching up to us in January? This will become clearer as the year goes on.

Every year January seems to be slow as the buyers are out and ready to buy but the sellers want to wait for better weather to sell.  Now with all the rain we are getting, it does tend to affect our market.  There is a scarity of good inventory in most established areas of the City.  I just listed a great home on Russian Hill with wonderful City and Bay views. So if you know of anyone who would love to live on Russian Hill and enjoy the ambiance of quintesential San Francisco-- this is for them.  And if there are people who want to take advantage of the tax credit for first time buyers or the one for "trade up" buyers there is not much time left.  Interest rates are also still very good so the time is right with the combination of low interest rates, low prices and tax credits.  I think those who don't buy now will look back on this time with longing..... "I wish I had bought that house..........."  Don't look back with regret, move forward now.

Our current tenants' lease expires at the end of November, and we would LOVE to find a great long term rental or ski lease for the winter! This is the property I mentioned above. Hawaii is a perfect getaway and the air fares are very good. Steps from the beach on the Big Island of Hawaii is our fabulous 3 bedroom, 3 and 1/2 bath beach front condo at Kolea in the Waikoloa Beach Resort available for rent with ocean views and steps from the "A" Bay beach. See what Foster Weeks says every Monday about interest rates in his weekly newsletter and on Blog. With all the turmoil in the stock and bond markets, it changes day to day! However, interest rates have been very low for a long time. Now might be the time to take advantage of it!
